The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday demanded resignation of Delhi transport minister Kailash Gehlot for allegedly shielding one of his personal staff who has been accused of rape. The BJP hit out at the Aam Aadmi Party, claiming that the accused Naveen, who is also a party worker has not been arrested on the behest of the minister.
Attacking the AAP, Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari said that this incident has once again exposed the anti-woman character of the party. “The personal staff of the transport minister committed this crime and he is protecting him whereas he should have taken action immediately and helped in getting the accused sternly punished.”
“Many cases of harassment of women and crime against them have been reported in which either an AAP minister, legislator or the worker were accused but Arvind Kejriwal protected them. Some MLAs of AAP have also been to jail for committing crime against women but the party has not taken any action against them,” Tiwari alleged.
Tiwari also accused Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal for remaining silent on the issue. “Why is she silent and not taking any action against the accused? This is because he is a worker of AAP. If she wants to favour a political party while heading the chair, it is better that she resigns from the women commission and join the party so she can then openly support the AAP,” the BJP leader said.
