Rakesh Kumar, a teacher and one of the three accused arrested from Himachal Pradesh for allegedly leaking CBSE Class XII Economics paper, sent the question paper to help his relative in Chandigarh as he was weak in the subject. He was the Centre Superintendent at Jawahar Navodaya Public School Pekhubela in Una.
He, along with 2 others, circulated the paper on March 24, two days prior the day of the exam," said RP Updhayay, Special CP, Crime.
The paper was WhatsApped, tallied by a student and then circulated on various social media groups.
"Rakesh's role was to collect the question paper from the Union Bank of India to the exam centre. The two other accused also accompanied him to the bank," said Updhayay.
On March 23, Rakesh along with his school clerk, Amit and peon, Ashok reached the bank to collect the papers in two separate cars.
It was Computer Science and Information Practices (IP) exam that day and they had to take bundles of the same.
However, while they were picking the papers, they also picked up a bundle which had Economics question papers. The Economics exam was scheduled for March 26. The procedure is to mention the number of bundles picked up in the register, however, the same is not verified physically. So, Rakesh while exiting only mentioned the number of Computer Science and Information Practices, not the Economics paper.
Rakesh gave the Economics paper bundle to Amit and Ashok."The duo took out one question paper and clicked pictures, then WhatsApped it to Rakesh. Rakesh then got the paper tallied on paper from one of his students.
The handwritten question paper was then forwarded to one of his relative in Chandigarh, whose son was weak in Economics from where it was circulated further," said Alok Kumar, Joint CP.
"So far, the investigation has revealed the paper was leaked to help Rakesh's relative and not for any monetary purpose," said Updhayay.
