The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested a member of the Chhenu Gang. The accused, Asif (42), is involved in a Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) case and has a reward of a lakh on his arrest.  Asif is the cousin of Irfan alias Chhenu Pehalwan and also one of the sharpshooters of the dreaded gang. The accused was wanted in an abduction case where he along with his associates had kidnapped a businessman, Vinod Jain. They then  asked for a ransom of Rs 30 lakh at gunpoint.

“It has been revealed that these associates of Chhainu gang including Asif are involved in extorting money from businessmen in the Trans-Yamuna region as protection money,” said Pramod Singh Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell. Asif told interrogators that he had extorted Rs 30 lakh from Jain, a resident of Brahampuri in North-East Delhi after he was abducted in 2014.

“He had even fired at him to instil fear in him. After a year, Asif again threatened Jain to pay an amount of Rs 20 lakh else he would be shot dead. However, this time Jain did not succumb to the pressure and instead decided to inform the police. Asif was on The run since then,” said Kushwah.

A case was later registered at the Seelampur police station. The accused used to procure weapons for the gang from the money received through ransoms and extortions. The police have recovered a semi-automatic pistol along with four live cartridges from his possession.
