After receiving several complaints of shortage of water in community toilets in various parts of the national capital, an emergency Board meeting of Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) was convened on Saturday. In the meeting chaired by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, complaints from MLAs over shortage of water and power at community toilets in the city were discussed.
According to sources, the members present at the meeting expressed their displeasure over the inaction of DUSIB officials. Many also complained that the problem arose after the government decided to make these toilets free and open for 24 hours.
Kejriwal has aksed the CEO of DUSIB to submit a report on the status of all the community toilet in Delhi. He has also asked them to take immediate steps to resolve the issue.
"The CEO has been asked to submit a report in 7 days; a copy of the same must reach each member of the board by noon of February 20. This report must also contain videos made on the toilets, focusing on cleanliness, availability of water, electricity, etc," said a senior Delhi government official.
Senior government officials also said that the CEO has also been directed to visit the community toilets himself during peak usage hours everyday, up to February 17, and share video reports of the visits with board members.
A representative of the DCW will also accompany the DUSIB CEO along with local MLA and board members who wish to go on surprise checks.
