After winning hearts on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is now on Instagram, another move aimed at making a personal connect with residents of the city. From posting a picture about a meeting with residents to addressing the Delhi Legislative Assembly, the page is all about Kejriwal's love for Delhiites.
The page, so far, has over 15,000 followers. His profile on Instagram in the last two weeks has witnessed a transition in terms of the number of posts on the page. There are 39 posts on the page, so far.
"We are keeping it more image-based. The idea is to give a personal touch to all the pictures posted on the page. Kejriwal wants it to look like a proper Delhiite page and not of any political figure," said Ankit Lal, social media strategist, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
The Facebook page of Kejriwal is followed by over 7 million people. The leader and the party is often seen interacting with the residents through Facebook live sessions. Similarly, his Twitter account has 13.6 million followers.
"Facebook is used for communicating with a larger audience while Twitter is all about the political views. With Instagram, we want to give it a personal touch, as in who is Arvind Kejriwal - individually. The audience on Instagram is young and proactive and they do not wish to indulge themselves in any political discussion. This mode of social networking is light-hearted and for fun and we aim to maintain the page on that basis only," said Lal.
A team of four volunteers is monitoring the page on a regular basis. But, there is a catch. The page is not only about Kejriwal but also about the people who meet him daily. "Even with his busy schedule, he meets a lot of people. So, we keep an eye on such photos," he said.
So, what took the team so long to have a page of Delhi CM? "The idea was contemplated a long time back. Earlier, Kejriwal was not very sure about it. But, almost two months back, we prepared a plan and proposed it to him again. And, he gave a nod," Lal said.
