Death of a 10-year-old-boy, who had gone missing from southeast area of Delhi and later found dead, triggered anger among the villagers with his parents and locals protesting against lawlessness and insufficient policing in the area.

The parents said that the police didn't search for the child properly and hence he was found dead.

The family members along with the locals gathered at the Jaitpur police station with the dead body of the child and blamed the police for his death. The child was found in a canal on Saturday after he went missing while on his way home from school on Thursday.

"Why didn't the police take the case of our missing child seriously? The seniors should investigate the matter and suspend the personnel at fault. We demand justice and arrest of the criminals as soon as possible," said Sanjay Jha, the deceased's father.

He further said that the kid was the source of happiness in their life as he was the only male kid in the family.

"We think that the society does not take the lower class into consideration. Had it been a murder of a rich businessman, the police would have been on their toes to find the missing person," said Jha.

Police managed to bring the situation under control and assured the family that the criminals will be arrested soon. Family members and others known to them are being questioned and CCTV footages from the area are being scanned to ascertain the sequence of the incident.

On Saturday, the boy was found dead near the Agra canal in Mithapur area. After receiving information, a police team rushed to the spot and the body was identified as that of Akash Kumar.

Primary investigation revealed that the child had been missing since Thursday from near his school. An FIR was registered when the child was reported missing and searches were also carried out.

DCP south, Chinmoy Biswal said that the matter is being probed.
