Delhi Jal Board introduces 'Water ATMs' in Capital

To take on packaged bottled water, the Delhi Jal Board has initiated an aggressive campaign on social networking websites about the facility of 'Water ATMs' across the national capital where people can avail of chilled filtered water at a token rate of Rs 1 for 300 ml.

These Water ATMs will be seen at every bus stands, railway stations and market places across the city, claims DJB on its online campaign. The initiative is timely planned as the summers have marked their entry in the national capital.

"Not much people are aware about these water ATMs. So, we have decided to get aggressive on the social media. We will be regularly posting about these ATMs and where they are placed. This will help the general public to avail the facility," said CEO, Keshav Chandra.

With temperatures in Delhi reaching to 41 degrees Celsius, the demand for bottled water has increased in the national capital. The introduction of these water ATMs in the city will reduce the sale and purchase of these private bottled water.

The DJB has already installed water ATMs at a few locations in the city and is looking for CSR funds to set up more. Similarly, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has planned to set up water ATMs at 15 locations in the Lutyens' Zone to provide clean drinking water to people under the Smart City plan.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has also decided to equip 34 Metro stations, among a total of 156 stations, with water dispensing ATMs to help quench the thirst of an estimated over 30 lakh commuters.
