The signboard of Lutyens' Delhi's iconic Akbar road was defaced on Tuesday night by vandals who stuck a poster on it that read 'Maharana Pratap Marg'. It was the Mewar warrior's birth anniversary, and the yellow and pink poster was removed by Delhi police.

The road hosts the residences of several Union ministers and that of BJP chief Amit Shah as well; Congress' office is situated there too. "We have not received or approved any such proposal for renaming the road. We have filed a police complaint," said a senior official from the New Delhi Municipal Council.

The incident came to light during police patrol.

As of Wednesday evening, nobody had claimed responsibility for it. "A case has been registered under the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act against unknowns," said Madhur Verma, DCP (New Delhi).
