Delhi schools for nursery to class 8 likely to reopen from November 1

To open the schools for senior classes, DDMA had asked schools to operate at 50% capacity to avoid crowding, decrease the chance of COVID spreading.

Looking at the steady decline in COVID-19 cases in the national capital, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government, on Wednesday, decided to reopen the schools for nursery to class 8, in a phased manner from November 1. The decision was announced on Wednesday by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) who said that schools would reopen for students, keeping in mind all the COVID-19 related protocols. 

Notably, for students of class 9 to class 12, the schools already reopened a while back. To open the schools for senior classes, DDMA had asked schools to operate at 50% capacity to avoid crowding and decrease the chance of the deadly coronavirus spreading. 

Other guidelines included constant sanitisation of premises and socially distanced seating arrangements. Even though classes reopened for the seniors, online education is still available for anyone who does not want to physically attend classes. 

In addition to Delhi, the Tamil Nadu government is also planning to reopen schools for classes 1 to 8 from November 1. According to a statement issued by Chief Minister MK Stalin, the decision was taken by the government after speaking to medical experts, parents. 

CM Stalin also said that students of class 1 to class 8 were experiencing a gap in learning by not attending physical classes. 

Meanwhile, India reported 18,870 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which is 0.4 percent higher than yesterday. With this, the country's case tally has touched 3,37,16,451. As many as 378 deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, increasing the total death count to 4,47,751, according to the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry.
