A 35-year-old tailor, reeling under a financial crisis after his owner's shop was sealed in the ongoing sealing drive by civic authorities, allegedly committed suicide in northwest Delhi's Keshawpuram area on Thursday.
The deceased, identified as Shiv Kumar, was a resident of Bihar. He was reportedly depressed as he had not received his salary since a few months. He worked for a tailor situated in the Jai Mata Market in the Trinagar area, which had been sealed by authorities acting on the Supreme Court order.
The police recovered a suicide note from him, which said he ended his life because he wasn't paid.
Many traders in the national capital have suffered because of the sealing drive being carried out, and many have expressed anger over the incident as well. Local traders have expressed their frustration over the apex court-appointed monitoring committee's actions. Local leaders of the Congress, and husbands of the local BJP councillor reached the area on Thursday after hearing of the suicide.
The police has sent the body for a post-mortem examination, and is investigating the matter further.
