Delhi Metro's Saket station witnessed high-voltage drama on Friday when a 25-year-old man walked on the rail track through the tunnel reaching the next station — Malviya Nagar. As he was seen walking on the tracks at Malviya Nagar Metro station, the Central Industrial Security Force commandos (CISF) — who man the security — caught hold of him.
According to CISF officials, the man, identified as Amit Kumar who is a resident of Malviya Nagar, was caught at the Saket station for wrongly travelling in the women's coach.
"At around 8:15 pm, he was brought to the station control room where he was fined Rs 250 for sitting in the women's coach. After being charged, he tried to flee and got on the track," said a senior officer.
The same night, a video of the incident with a semi-naked Kumar drenched in blood from his face and torso started going viral on social media.
However, even as posts on social media read "accused of stealing, man ruthlessly beaten by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) employees along with commuters", no police case was filed.
Sources said, the CISF was trying to downplay the incident and cover up the matter, as the man was reportedly beaten up by Metro employees.
"The man is mentally unsound and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. The man's family has been informed. The man fell a few times and hurt himself when he was inside the tunnel, as there was no light," said an officer.
The CISF, in a statement, said, "The man was released after penalty. This was when he got onto the tracks and started running towards Malviya Nagar station. He was caught and then questioned. It was found that he could not explain his motives clearly and appeared to be of unsound mind."
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro), Deepak Gauri said that no such complaint was received.
"We did not receive any complaints from the commuters of any theft, neither from the victim that he was thrashed. His father was informed and he was handed over to his family without an FIR against him. The family informed that the man is under treatment at Ambedkar Hospital," the DCP said.
