A 23-year-old youth was stabbed to death allegedly by his friends in south Delhi's Ambedkar Nagar area in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Mohit Rai, who was murdered by five of his friends. Prima facie it appears that the accused men were drunk when the incident took place. Investigating official said that the fight erupted between the victim and the accused over a payment to Rai's elder brother.
Police said that Rai was at his house watching an IPL match when he was called at a nearby spot. His friends --- Arvind, Himanshu, Rahul, Ankush and Badal --- were already there and they allegedly stabbed him to death.
According to the family members of the deceased, Rai's friends Himanshu and Rahul came to the house and took him to a nearby spot on the pretext of showing him a new camera and killed him there.
"The two came and told my brother that Arvind had bought a new DSLR camera and wanted my brother's help to operate it," said Neelam, the deceased's younger sister.
According to the police, they received a call around 12.30 am about a young man being stabbed in Ambedkar Nagar.
" Mohit was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where he was declared brought dead dead on arrival. A case of murder was registered against the five. We have arrested Arvind and Ankush, while teams have been formed to nab the others. Arvind himself had sustained some injuries during the attack," said Romil Baaniya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south).
During the interrogation, it was revealed that Rai got to know that his brother had lent some money to Arvind which the accused was unable to repay.
"Rai's brother had kept Arvind's mobile as a security. On Wednesday, the five men demanded from Rai that he brings the mobile and returns it to Arvind. When he refused, they attacked him with knives and fled the spot," Baaniya said.
