The Kasna police arrested a 22-year-old woman from the Sector 18 area of Noida on Wednesday evening for blackmailing a married man she had befriended on social media.
According to the police, the woman, a resident of Kanpur, came in touch with the victim on a social media platform.
"According to the victim, they became friends a couple of months ago and started meeting at various places in the national Capital. However, later on, the woman threatened to leak photos and videos of them together in a compromising position on social media," said, Shalendra Pratap Singh, station house officer of the Kasna police station.
The victim said that the woman then started blackmailing him and extorting money from him, said the SHO.
"She initially asked him to pay Rs 2 lakh, which he paid. However, later on, she continued to blackmail him following which he approached the police," Singh said.
The police said that the victim is married and does not want his family to find out about the incident. They also suspect that the affair may have been going for longer than the victim is disclosing.
Singh also said that the woman belongs to an educated family. Police are questioning her to find out if she had extorted money from other people as well.
A case of blackmail was registered against the woman following which she was produced before a magistrate and later sent to jail.
