The Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has set up a committee of five members to inquire into the whole incident of violence that took place on the campus on January 5. The committee will submit its report at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the students continued to protest at the university campus and demanded the resignation of Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar. A march was planned by the protestors from JNU to Mandi House. The police, however, asked them to use buses to reach there.

CPI(M) leaders Sitaram Yechury, D Raja, Prakash Karat and Brinda Karat reached Mandi House to protest in solidarity with JNU students. They were joined by Loktantrik Janata Dal party leader Sharad Yadav.

A march was then started from Mandi House to Ministry of Human Resource Development which was stopped at Shashtri Bhawan by the Delhi Police.

In the meantime, VC Kumar on Thursday alleged that some professors of the varsity are inciting the students against him. Speaking exclusively to Zee News, he added that they can be identified on social media platforms. "Here are some teachers who work to incite the students against me. You can identify them on social media," he said.

"As far as resignation is concerned, you will have to ask the MHRD. People of the Students Union in JNU keep asking for my resignation," he added.

Speaking on the Sunday violence, he said, "the incident on Sunday was unfortunate. Everything will become clear in the police investigation. The current situation is quite normal in JNU."

A mob wearing masks, armed with lathis and stones attacked students and teachers protesting against the hostel fee hike. Several students were injured in the attack including Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union (JNUSU) president Aishe Ghosh.
