Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union president N Sai Balaji met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday to brief him about "rising terror and violence" in the wake of recent clashes in the campus.
His party — All India Students' Association — however, denied any possibility of an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party or its student affiliate Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti for JNU. The consortium of AISA and CYSS had unsuccessfully contested the Delhi University Students'Union elections this year.
Balaji said the CM was apprised about the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad running their terror reign inside the campus with the vice-chancellor being in cahoots with them and shielding them.
Talking to DNA, Sandeep Saurav, AISA national general secretary, confirmed that the agenda of the meeting was only to bring to his notice what AISA members and the newly-elected students' body has been going through since the results came out on Sunday.
"Our supporters have been threatened with dire consequences openly, virtual Emergency has been imposed by the authorities. The administration is openly supporting ABVP's anti-social elements," he added.
Replying to a question on why he approached Delhi CM although he has no stake in JNU, Saurav said: "We want him to extend whatever help he can as a CM. Also, we are trying to garner as much outside support as we can against the hooliganism and violence being spread by ABVP in JNU," the AISA leader said. He further stated that Balaji met the AAP chieftain in the capacity of the CM, dismissing all prospects of joining hands.
Tweeting about the developments of the meeting, Balaji wrote about Kejriwal, "He felt inspired when I told him how we are resisting this regime, violence and section 144 rules through massive unity, night vigils, protests, peace marches and Non-cooperation. He asked us to keep our fight on and remain united."
