A 57-year old man who duped thousands of people on the pretext of providing them houses at a cheaper rate under the Prime Minister's Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna has been arrested by the crime branch of Delhi Police. The accused had duped around 3,000 people on the pretext of providing them houses at a cheap price under the PM's scheme.
Bhisham Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch said "The accused was running a website in the name of https://www.nhdoindia.org, National Housing Development Organization (NHDO) with an office at Nehru Place. The accused was using the picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as the Minister of Housing and Poverty Alleviation to promote his organisation which he was running in the guise of a trust,".
The accused identified as Rajinder Kumar Tripathi hails from Gorakhpur. After 1989 Tripathi shifted to Delhi and started an NGO in the name of LIC Policy Holders Welfare Organisation for working Welfare/Grievances Removal of LIC Policy Holders. He projected a micro-credit scheme for the NGOs (All over India) in 2004. Under this scheme, he had duped NGOs for providing loans for the women of rural areas.
To advertise the scheme he also printed advertisements and duped four companies for RS 20 lakh each, the officer said.
