On the issue of constructing public toilets, the Swaraj India questioned how corporation has money to construct it when it has failed to release pending salaries of corporations employees

Taking a swipe at Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the political outfit Swaraj India on Friday claimed that Center’s ambitious Swachh Bharat scheme is a complete failure in Delhi with only Rs 2.22 crore being spent out of the total of Rs 336 crore allotted for its implementation in the national Capital.

“During the five years of the mission, Delhi was supposed to get Rs 360.01 crores. Of this amount, Rs 139.60 crore was released in the fiscal year 2015 -16. But according to data, of the Rs 46.28 crores given to North Delhi Municipal Corporation in 2015-16, not a single rupee was spent. Eastern Corporation has also not spent a single rupee of Rs 41.99 crores,” said party’s national spokesperson Anupam.

Blaming BJP of doing nothing to implement Swatch Bharat Mission in Delhi, the spokesperson said “The most serious issue of Delhi in the recent years have been spread of  diseases like dengue and chikungunya. All these are directly linked to cleanliness, a subject under the jurisdiction of MCD. Swachh Bharat Mission was one such scheme which could have done a lot in the right direction but the MCD has failed the people of Delhi because of poor efforts taken by BJP.”

On the issue of constructing public toilets, the Swaraj India questioned how corporation has money to construct it when it has failed to release pending salaries of corporations employees.

“Public toilets is concerned, the Municipal Corporations are supposed to raise funds through private partnership basis. It’s a well known fact that Delhi Municipal Corporation is always short of funds,” Anupam said.
