After successfully gifting the National Capital Region the Magenta Line last year, the DMRC will now extend the services to Terminal 1 of the airport.

Delhiites will soon be connected to the domestic airport through the Metro as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has set a deadline of March to start this section. After successfully gifting the National Capital Region the Magenta Line last year, the DMRC will now extend the services to Terminal 1 of the airport.

One section of the Magenta Line running between Janakpuri (West) and Botanical Garden, will be connected to T-1. Trials for the section which will be between Janakpuri (West) and T-1 is in its final stages, according to a senior DMRC official.

The corporation has sent the observations of this trial to its security division. It is now awaiting a green signal from the department to carry out the final inspection of this section. This Metro section is likely to become functional by March. This section of the train will facilitate the ease of travel to the domestic airport for West Delhi residents and commuters of the Blue Line.

There will be as many as six stations on this corridor, including Palam, Sadar Baazar, Janakpuri (West), Dabri Mod, Dashrathpuri, and T-1. It would also have an interchange station on Janakpuri West on Blue Line. A single tunnel will run underground from the Metro station to the airport.

The Magenta Line is a 38 km long line, part of which was opened to the public on December 25 last year. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it plies between Kalkaji Mandir and Botanical Garden, covering a distance of 13 km. The new route has eased connectivity between Noida and south Delhi, reducing travel time to 19 minutes. Considered an engineering marvel, Magenta Line up to Kalkaji Mandir has nine stations en route.
