The chamber is spread over an area of 13,000 square feet

An enclosed green space has been set up Huda city Metro station where people can go and breathe easy

The National Capital Region will soon get its first "oxygen chamber."The chamber has been conceptualised by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in association with a private company Nurturing Green, to help the NCR, a region which chokes on polluted air, breathe easy. The enclosed space is being set up at Huda City Centre Metro Station where people will be able to walk in and breathe in pure, unadulterated oxygen.

Spread over an area of 13,000 square feet, the place has been constructed with mechanical air purifiers and plants that specifically have the purpose of clearing pollution from atmosphere. There are as many as 12 varieties of plants like the Areca palm, peace lily, sansivierra that will cleanse the air in the oxygen chamber.

The project was completed in a record time of one month and has incurred a cost of around Rs 4 crore.

Talking to DNA, Annu Grover of Nurture Greens that has been roped in by DMRC for the project, said, "I reside in Gurgaon and the air quality is terrible. The onset of winters and post Diwali smog makes survival unbearable, so much so that we head to the hills regularly to get in some fresh air."

It was this continuous battle with polluted air that prompted him to envisage an oxygen chamber.

"In the most polluted area of the NCR, we have created a place where people can stop by on their way to offices to inhale fresh oxygen or children can come in to read their story books and improve their health conditions which worsened due to rising pollution. We have brought in equipment to set this up."

Asked about the cost of usage Grover said this facility could be used by anyone without charge.

The tie-up with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will help Nurturing Green to set-up more six facilties like these, including two at metro stations.

The O2 facility at Huda City Center will be inaugurated tomorrow at 1.30 pm by Harayana Environment Minister Vipul Goel, in the presence of Mangu Singh, Managing Director of DMRC, Sharat Sharma Director Operations, Vinay Pratap SIngh, Deputy Commissioner, Gurugram.
