Soon all schools under the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will have mentors, who would work for the overall development of schools and focus on infrastructure, curriculum, teachers, and students, among other things.
The NDMC has invited applications from retired officials, both from the government and the private sector, to guide schools for overall development. “We have invited applications from retired officials, preferably joint secretary level and above, from both the private and the government sector, to voluntarily mentor the schools,” an NDMC official said.
The Council is eyeing people who are passionate about education and have innovative and creative ideas for their betterment. “The main purpose is to guide students and teachers. In the field of education, concentration is now more on minting money. Very few people are actually passionate about bringing a change and imparting quality education. These mentors would thus act as the backbone of schools,” the official said.
These mentors will not be paid, and the interviews will be conducted after shortlisting names from the entries received. The mentors will also be entrusted with the responsibility to gauge the level of students and teachers. “The volunteers should have the zest, zeal, and the willingness to work in the sector of education. This is the minimum qualification that we are seeking,” the official added.
Meanwhile, retired Indian Administrative officer Bhure Lal has been roped in by NDMC to mentor the Navyug Senior Secondary School at Lodhi Road. “I was approached for the mentorship and I have agreed. I will talk to teachers, parents, and students and motivate them for better results,” Lal said.
NDMC has 50 schools under its jurisdiction.
