The Delhi Police have decided to withdraw the security cover for 13 persons, including Robert Vadra's mother Maureen Vadra and former Delhi Police chief and the present CBI Director Alok Kumar Verma.
Vadra was provided a cordon of six police officers. The list also includes Manishi Chandra, a Delhi Police officer with the Special Cell earlier and now posted in South district.
A Congress spokesperson and an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) minister are also among those who have lost the Delhi Police security cover.
The move came after some sections of the media raised questions about Vadra's security cover. Robert Vadra, in a post on a social networking site, had written that it was the duty of security agencies to assess the security and they can withdraw it if they want to.
The Delhi Police prepared a list of 13 persons who were being given security cover under various categories and withdrew it with immediate effect. Though they didn't release the names and designations of the VIPs, DNA has learnt that the list includes one
Pinki, VN Singh, Inspector Vidhya Dhar, Harish Chauhan, Alok Kumar, Manjula Verma, Manishi Chandra, Congress Spokesperson Ambika Dass, a former Delhi chief secretary and a minister from the Aam Aadmi Party.
The withdrawal of security cover would eventually help the force to send more men for law-and-order arrangements in the city.
The Delhi Police have been providing different kind of security cover to 464 VVIPs till date. As per the documents accessed by DNA, as of 2016, 42 were given Z+ security cover, 60 Z cover security, 72 Y (threat) cover, 154 Y (positional) and 78 X category security cover.
Further, on MHA directions, 398 persons have been given security cover and 66 on directions from the police headquarters. Out of the 77,000 personnel, 10,400 have been deployed for security cover of the VVIPs in the Capital.
