A 48-year-old constable, posted with the Gautam Budh Nagar police station, who allegedly tried to molest and rape a six-year-old girl inside a police post in the Ecotech 3 area of Greater Noida, has been terminated from service while the post in-charge of Kulesara police post has been sent to district line.
According to the police, the accused Narender Kumar was arrested on Sunday and has been sent to jail, while Harvir Singh, in-charge of Kulesara police outpost, has been sent to district line for his carelessness.
"It was a shameful incident. Cops are there to save people, such people will not be entertained in the police department. We assure that strictest action will be taken against the accused and a departmental enquiry has also been initiated," said Suniti, Superintendent of Police (Rural).
Locals have alleged that the constables posted at the Kulesara police post are mostly found in an inebriated state and people are afraid of approaching them to get their complaints registered.
"We have asked the SHO and circle officers to keep a check on this while we will organise gender sensitisation and legal awareness programmes for the police personnel to create a gender-friendly environment in police stations considering the need to educate and sensitise the lower lever cops on such issues, including legal provisions so that people, especially women do not face such apathy," Suniti added.
On Saturday morning, a 48-year-old constable, posted with the Gautam Budh Nagar police station, allegedly tried to molest and rape a six-year-old girl. Police said that the inebriated constable tried to take the girl inside the Kulesara police post and assault her.
Kumar was arrested within an hour of the incident. He was found in an inebriated state. He was terminated from service with immediate effect and booked under non-bailable charges of 376 (Rape) and 511 (Attempted abduction) and section 354A (Sexual harassment) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Kumar, a native of Partapur in Meerut, has been in service for 27 years and had been posted at Kulesara for the last four years.
