Faculty members of Delhi University's Ramjas College launched an indefinite sit-in on Thursday in protest of the delay in the release of their salaries for the second consecutive month.
"We have not received our salaries on time for the past two consecutive months. It was delayed again by eight days last month and this month, six days have already passed and we have not received our salaries," a senior faculty member said.
Echoing the sentiment, another faculty member said, "We usually receive our salaries on the first day of every month but now things have been changed now and we are facing acute financial problems."
Attributing the delay to the University Grants Commission's inability to release funds on time, Ramjas College Principal PC Tulsian said, "We have not received funds from the UGC...We are trying our level best to get the funds from the UGC. The commission has not given any reason yet for the delay."
Earlier in 2012, a similar issue arose forcing a section of teachers of the college on the university's North Campus to stage protests demanding a timely disbursal of salaries.
