Taking action against students who were allegedly involved in creating ruckus between groups of Indian and Afghan students at the Sharda University campus, University administration has found eight students guilty of involvement as their name came to light from the proceedings of the three member investigation committee formed to investigate the issue. While four other students have been suspended.
A three-member inquiry committee was constituted by the university on October 4 to look into the incidents of scuffle on the campus between October 1 and 4.
The three member committee submitted the inquiry report to the university authorities on Monday evening, days after Gautam Buddh Nagar administration suspected the role of anti-social elements from outside in escalating "a minor scuffle into a communal issue".
According to the spokesperson of the university, eight students have been found guilty which include Afghans, also 10 others have been fined on disciplinary grounds, while four others suspended.
"Eight students have been charge-sheeted and asked to explain why they should not be expelled from the university. Ten students have been warned and put on probation for the rest of their studies in the university. They will have to deposit an additional security money of Rs 25,000, as surety, which shall be forfeited in case of their involvement in any further act of indiscipline," read the statement.
Four students have been suspended and asked to face the inquiry committee within two days, while four others have been warned and put on probation for the rest of their studies in the university.
The spokesperson said that 10 students have been let off for want of any substantial evidence.
"The inquiry committee has decided to look into some more cases of students, against whom evidences are coming up, in next couple of days. The committee has also issued fresh notices to 15 students who did not turn up before it, despite notices, and has asked them to appear in person on Tuesday," spokeperson said,
Meanwhile, the university re-opened on Tuesday after four days.
After the strict action from the Sharda University administration, students have started leaving Whatsapp groups one by one that were created for the purpose of mobilizing students to join the protest. These groups were influenced by the self-proclaimed leaders Deepak Sharma and Ved Nagar who are trying to hijack the issue for their personal benefits. An FIR against them has already been registered and the police is trying to nab them.
Earlier Saturday, the university has been asked to submit its explanation within a week to the district administration, which has raised concern over its security management ahead of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu's scheduled visit on October 28 for varsity's convocation ceremony.
