Delhi Police apprehended a gang of three notorious thieves, identified as Ranganathan alias Ranga (44), resident of Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, Natraja (39), resident of Kolar, Karnataka and Abdul Hasan (25), resident of Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu on Tuesday from Connaught Place area of Delhi.
The gang members were involved in bag lifting and were known as the 'Thak-Thak' gang. The gang mostly operated in Connaught Place area of Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR). They targeted people in posh areas, busy markets and gold market areas. The gang members mostly targetted women and senior citizens in these areas so that they commit the crime and could flee away from the spot immediately.
The police had information about the activities of the gang members in and around Connaught Place area and they formed a team to patrol the area to nab the criminals. While the police was patrolling on Wednesday, they saw one of the victims chasing the robbers. Police immediately got into action and nabbed the criminals.
According to SHO, Connaught Place Police station, Vinod Narang, the gang members have been involved and apprehended several times before as well for various crimes. "During the interrogation, they confessed that about 40 persons, in gangs of four, are operating in the Capital for committing such type of bag lifting thefts in different areas of Delhi-NCR. Most of them belong to Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu," said Deputy Commissioner of Police, (New Delhi) Madhur Verma.
The police recovered around Rs two lakh in cash and 3 bags containing important documents and a stolen laptop from the arrested gang members.
