Traders in Delhi began a three-day shutdown on Friday to protest the BJP-led municipal corporations' drive to seal "illegal" shops, as the issue was raised by AAP MPs in the Rajya Sabha and the Centre-run Delhi Development Authority (DDA) offered some relief to agitators.

All three AAP MPs raised the issue that has affected thousands of traders with Sanjay Singh shouting slogans and accusing the Centre of ruining the lives of seven lakh traders.

Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad of the Congress also said Delhi is the second home of all MPs and it is their duty to help people of the city. "If lakhs of people are being uprooted, the Centre is responsible for it. They should answer here. They cannot merely watch silently what is happening.

"The government should answer how they are throwing out poor shopkeepers from the roads. Business in the entire country has been shut because of the government's wrong policies and now people who earn their living on the roadside are also being thrown out by the government," Azad said.

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien said the same people disturbed the House in the morning during Zero Hour and were doing it again during Question Hour. "Is it fair," he asked.

Meanwhile, DDA approved three proposals — higher floor area ratios (FAR), reduced conversion charges and regularisation of agricultural godowns. The decision was taken by L-G Anil Baijal who is also DDA Chairman.
