In a protest that inconvenienced the traffic on the roads of Greek Park in South Delhi, a group of transgenders stripped naked and danced on the public vehicles that were stopped forcefully. This has resulted after the police on numerous occasions has asked the transgenders to not carry out illegal activities.
In a video, which went viral on various message applications including WhatsApp, a group of around 8-10 transgenders — some naked while some semi-naked — are seen creating a ruckus and have even stopped the traffic. The video was recorded by one of the commuters who was stopped by the group.
A passerby recorded the incident which shows two naked transgenders. One of them can be seen climbing a car while another lying on the road right in front of the car to ensure it does not move. One of the transgenders is seen patting her private parts and dancing over the car while another blocks the road. Following this drama, the others group members standing on the side join and start stripping too.
The police officials in South Delhi are trying to prevent transgenders from encroaching roadsides and indulging in prostitution and illegal activities late in the night since over a month. "They were asked to move from Hauz Khas area and they moved their base near the IIT Delhi gate. Whenever we ask them to move and not carry out the activities, they strip and create a ruckus," said a police officer.
On Friday evening during a drive launched by the police, six transgenders, who were standing on the stretch from Lajpat Nagar to Defence Colony were taken into preventive custody. The Delhi police have now decided to provide them better job opportunities and are planning to approach them and offer them jobs in the hospitality sector under the Yuva Scheme of the Delhi police.
