A youth was arrested late on Thursday night for allegedly killing a tuition teacher in Jahangirpuri area. The fourth year B Tech Computer Science student from Delhi Technical University claimed that Ankit Kumar, the 31-year-old victim, was in a relationship with one of his friends, a fellow student. However, he had begun threatening her after she broke up with him.On Monday, Kumar was gunned down by a masked man in front of two of his students who were waiting outside his coaching centre in Jahagirpuri. The family members had suspected it to be a case of honour killing as the deceased was dating a girl of another community."While checking the CCTV footage of the area on Thursday, the deceased's family members identified the killer as Akash, who happened to be one of his students. We checked the records and zeroed in on Akash. He was arrested from Jahangirpuri on Thursday night," said Aslam Khan, Deputy commissioner of police (northwest).During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he is friends with a 21-year-old woman who was in a relationship with the deceased. She was constantly threatened by Kumar for wanting to end the relationship. When the woman shared the ordeal with him, he decided to kill him."Akash was waiting for Kumar outside his coaching centre on Monday morning. As soon as he spotted the deceased, he grabbed him by his neck and shot him twice in the head in front of two other students who were waiting outside the coaching centre," said Khan.Police said that Akash bought the country-made pistol from Bagpath during Holi this year, when he had gone to UP to his native villagePolice were initially probing an honour killing angle, and the role of Kumar's long-term girlfriend, a 21-year-old Muslim woman, was also suspected.
