About NEET 2021

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), the national medical entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) every year, will be conducted on September 12, 2021.

Thousands of aspirants of the medical stream will participate to get admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other medical courses.

Guide to get admission in MBBS after qualifying NEET

After qualifying for the NEET exam, candidates who become successful in getting cut-off marks are eligible for the admission process. The admission to government colleges is done based on all India quota (AIQ) and state quota seats.

The AIQ quota consists of 15% seats whereas the state quota consists of 85% seats. The admission to 15% AIQ seats in government MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and BSc courses are done by the MCC (medical counselling committee) whereas the allocation of 85% state seats is done by the State counselling committee on the basis of NEET scores. Admission to private colleges is also done by the state counselling committee.

What to do immediately after NEET 2021 exam?

A candidate can predict getting admission to the college, based on the answer key released after the NEET exam using the previous year’s trends. For this prediction, a candidate may refer to previous year NEET marks vs rank trends.

This prediction will help in identifying the fate and preparing candidates for the upcoming opportunity.

What after declaration of NEET 2021 results?

With the declaration of NEET 2021 results and using the actual rank secured, candidates can get an estimate about what college they may be offered.

After the declaration of the NEET result, candidates will be going through the counselling process. It is only after the counselling process that they will get admission to MBBS/BDS courses.

After securing the minimum cut-off marks in NEET 2021, candidates will be eligible for the admission process.

After NEET Result: The Beginning of Counselling Process

After the conclusion of NEET exams and announcement of results, the role of NTA comes to an end. From now onwards, all the processes for NEET 2021 including counselling will be conducted by various authorities.

NEET 2021 aspirants need to have some idea about the division of seats for the counselling process.

There are three types of counselling for seats after NEET results:

AIQ seat counselling

AIQ (All India Quota) seat counselling includes all types of central and deemed universities such as AIIMS, AMU, and BHU.  It also fills 15% of the seats of all the government medical and dental colleges.

This counselling is conducted by MCC (medical counselling committee).

Candidates from all over India can take part in this counselling process as it does not require candidates to present either domicile or residency certificate.

Through this counselling process, a candidate can take admission in any college across India (except Jammu and Kashmir) irrespective of his/her domicile status.

State seat counselling

In this counselling process, 85% of the seats of government medical and dental colleges are filled. All the seats of private medical and dental colleges which are located in a particular state will also be taken up in this counselling process.

There are only 2 conditions for a candidate for state seat counselling:

  • The Candidate should be domiciled in the respective state, and
  • The college they want to get admission to should also be located within the state.

Therefore, candidates from other states will not be eligible for this counselling process.

AYUSH counselling

Counselling to get admission in AYUSH courses will be conducted by the AYUSH Admission Central Counselling Committee (AACCC). All the seats belonging to deemed AYUSH universities will be covered up in this counselling for admission purposes.

What if a candidate is unable to secure MBBS/BDS Admission after NEET 2021?

If a candidate is unable to secure MBBS or BDS seat after NEET 2021, it is time to prepare for one more year and reappear for the NEET exam. There is no limit on the number of times a candidate can attempt to crack the NEET exam so one should not be disheartened.

Furthermore, candidates should take note of the fact that besides getting admission to MBBS or BDS seats, the score secured in NEET exams could also be used to get admission in other courses such as bachelor of veterinary sciences, BYMS, BUMS, BHMS and BDS.
