National Education Day 2018: India celebrates the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Union Minister of India. Maulana Azad was born on 11th November which is now observed as the National Education Day in India. He believed that education is for 'one and all' and he contributed greatly towards the foundation of education in India.   

AICTE and UGC, two of the apex bodies of India, were set up by Maulana Azad the Minister of Education, Natural Resources and Scientific Research in 1953. A Muslim leader of the Indian National Congress and an Indian Scholar, Maulana Azad, rose to prominence through his work as a journalist. Maulana adopted 'Azad' as his pen name.
