Delhi schools have been partially reopened from today (August 9) for students of classes 10 and 12. According to the orders issued by the government of Delhi, students will be able to visit their school for admission related work, counselling or guidance and practical activities for board exams.
This decision was taken after the consultation of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) at a meeting where the Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia said that there has already been enough loss of education because of the closure of schools throughout last year. He also said that the government has received over 35,000 suggestions on the issue of reopening schools. The DDMA meeting was also attended by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Lt-Governor Anil Baijal, V K Paul, Randeep Guleria, ICMR Director General Balram Bhargava, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain, and other officials.
Delhi School Reopening: Know what's allowed and what's not
- Students, teachers, parents, and including other staff members should wear masks.
- Social distancing should be maintained in the schools. Abiding this may lead to a defined fine by the authority.
- Students can visit schools only for practical classes and board related works.
- Consent of parents is required to visit schools.
- Online classes will still continue.
COVID-19 guidelines and rules will be issued by the Directorate of Education soon to ensure the safety of students and teachers. A special committee of experts will be set up along with the Education and Health departments officials to plan detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for reopening schools and colleges.
Before taking this decision, the Delhi government had also taken suggestions from teachers and parents considering the COVID-19 situation in Delhi.
