Karnataka College Reopening: Post-matric hostels to reopen from Nov 17, COVID-19 negative report mandatory

As for the SOPs regarding reopening, the Karnataka government has said that students and teachers will have to mandatorily undergo a COVID-19 test and produce a negative report.

Karnataka College Reopening News: Colleges and higher education institutions in Karnataka are all set to reopen from November 17, 2020. Apart from this, all post-matric hostels have also been permitted to reopen in the state.

As for the SOPs regarding reopening, the Karnataka government has said that students and teachers will have to mandatorily undergo COVID-19 test and produce a negative report. To confirm the development, Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Pankaj Kumar Pandey has passed an order which made COVID-19 negative test as the minimum mandatory criteria for attending colleges for both teachers as well as students.

"As per SoP issued from Government of Karnataka, all teachers, students and non-teaching staff members of colleges and hostels shall produce a COVID-19 RT-PCR negative test report, which is done within 72 hours before the day of joining," the order said.

Labs have been instructed to carry out testing through a pooled process and the reports would be shared on the SMS and uploaded on the ICMR portal. It can also be accessed by visiting www.covidwar. karnataka.goV.in/servicel, for lab reports.

College reopening

Social Welfare Minister B Sriramulu on Twitter confirmed the news about the reopening of schools.

"As was decided in the meeting chaired by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on October 23, the classes will begin for graduate and postgraduate students from November 17. In this backdrop post-matric hostels managed by the Social Welfare Department across the state will function from 17th November 2020," he tweeted.

Furthermore, the state government has also decided to reopen Ayush, nursing, and medical colleges from December 1, 2020, and also issued SOPs and guidelines for the same.

On October 23, the state government decided to reopen engineering, diploma, and degree colleges including post-graduate colleges which have been shut for the past eight months due to COVID-19.

However, the students have an option to either attend the classes physically or online. A blended learning option would also be available to the students where they can choose to attend a few classes while taking other classes online.
