The Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) examination is among the most challenging exams in India. Each year, thousands of aspirants attempt the UPSC exam with the hope of becoming IAS officers. Today, we'll highlight a unique story of a former Indian cricketer who successfully cleared the UPSC exam before debuting for the Indian cricket team. This cricketer is Amay Khurasiya, the only international cricketer to have passed the UPSC exam.
Born in 1972, Amay Khurasiya shared the field with cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, and Ajay Jadeja. Hailing from Madhya Pradesh, he made his first-class cricket debut at 17. As a left-handed middle-order batsman, Khurasiya debuted for India in 1999 during the Pepsi Cup against Sri Lanka. Although he was part of the 1999 India World Cup squad, he did not play any matches in the tournament.
Khurasiya's international career was brief, featuring in only 12 ODIs for India and scoring 149 runs. His last match was in 2001 against Sri Lanka. However, he made a significant impact in first-class cricket, amassing 7,000 runs in 199 matches.
Remarkably, Khurasiya cleared the UPSC exam before his debut for India. Despite his success in the UPSC exam, his passion for cricket led him to pursue a career in the sport.
Currently, Amay Khurasiya is serving as an Inspector in the Indian Customs & Central Excise Department. He is also dedicated to nurturing young talent for the Indian Premier League (IPL) and beyond, having mentored and coached players like Rajat Patidar and fast bowler Avesh Khan.
