The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is undoubtedly one of the toughest exams in India. Every year lakhs of students appear in the UPSC exam but only a few hundred manage to clear it and become an IAS, IPS or IFS officer. Here we will trace IAS officer Srushti Jayant Deshmukh's journey, who managed to clear the UPSC exam in her first attempt and secured AIR 5.
Srushti Deshmukh was born to Jayant Deshmukh and Sunita Deskmukh in 1995. She belongs to Kasturba Nagar in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Srushti was just 23 years old when she cleared the UPSC exam.
Srushti went to Carmel Convent School, BHEL, Bhopal, and passed her 12th board exams with 93.4% marks.
Srushti wanted to pursue engineering from IIT but she did not succeed in clearing the IIT entrance exam. She then took admission to Bhopal’s Lakshmi Narain College of Technology to complete her B.Tech in Chemical Engineering.
Srushti says that along with preparing for the UPSC exam, studying engineering was very difficult. She used to spend maximum time and energy in UPSC preparation. She used to prepare for one to one and half a month for her semester exams of engineering.
Srushti’s family always supported her decision. Srushti's mother is a teacher and her father is an engineer, but they never asked her anything like what she was doing and why or how she would be doing. They always tried to give a healthy environment to Srushti.
Reading newspapers daily and watching Rajya Sabha TV (RSTV) helped Srushti Jayant Deshmukh a lot in preparation for UPSC, she said in an interview. Apart from this, online study material was also helpful.
Srushti Deshmukh loves to hear music and she also practices yoga daily.
Srushti Deshmukh is married to Dr. Nagarjun B Gowda, who is also an IAS officer.
