Achieving success in JEE Main and Advanced and pursuing engineering at IITs is the aspiration of numerous students across this nation. However, some students choose to stray from the norm and take an alternative route while keeping their interests and objectives in mind. Promising Assamese student Dhritishman Dutta is one such student. JEE Main and JEE Advanced were both won by Dhrishthaman. In JEE Main, he scored 99.875 percentile, and in JEE Advanced, he achieved an All India rank of 1,422. He could easily gain admission to one or more IITs with this rank.

In the NEET UG medical entrance exam, he received 625 out of 720 points. These grades allow him to enrol in any private medical school, if not a government one, to pursue an MBBS. Dhritishman, however, has made the decision to enrol in IISc Bengaluru, the top research institute in the nation, rather than pursue an engineering degree from IIT or an MBBS from a medical school.  After taking the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Aptitude Test (IAT) 2024, Dhritishman Dutta achieved the All India Fourth Rank. On June 25th, the result was revealed.

We would like to inform you that admission to research degree programmes at seven research institutes in the nation, including IISER, IISc Bangalore, and IIT Madras, is possible through the IISER IAT entrance exam. Admission to both four-year BS degree programmes and five-year BS MS dual degree programmes is obtained through this exam. IISc Bengaluru takes second place overall and is the nation's top research institute according to the government's NIRF ranking.

In the Assam Board 10th examination, 18-year-old Dhritishman received 94.2 percent of the possible points, placing him ninth overall in the state. The Dibrugarh student stated to The Indian Express that he hopes to spend his first year at the institute exploring more options.

Following this, he will make a decision regarding his future. Dutta attempted IAT for the first time with this attempt. Additionally, he showed up for the National Eligibility and Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG), JEE Main 2024, and JEE Advanced sessions. He could have been admitted to the Electrical and Electronics Engineering or Communication Engineering departments at IIT Roorkee, IIT Kanpur, or IIT Kharagpur with a JEE Advanced rank of 1,422. The applicant is qualified for a state quota seat based on their NEET UG score.

Dutta said, 'I started my preparation after class 10th keeping JEE Main in mind. However, my interest in research and IISER Aptitude Test directed my preparation mostly towards IAT. I took PCMB coaching at Aakash. My school teachers helped me achieve this feat in preparing for the IAT 2024 exam.”

When asked about his method of preparation, he revealed that he used the NCERT textbooks taught in school and the notes provided by the coaching centre. He said, "After my school was over between 1 and 3 pm, I would take some rest and then complete my school homework. I did online coaching from 7 pm to 10 pm."

He added, "I studied in such a way that my online coaching did not interfere with my board exam preparation and school routine. I do not think CBSE students get an edge in national level exams. The essence of the syllabus remains the same - Be it state board, CBSE or CISCE."

He explained that he had set daily goals that he hardly ever met when asked about his routine following the board exams. He had set aside the day to review and study PCMB courses. He said, “I paid less attention to Biology for IAT than PCM, even though it had 25 per cent weightage."
