Given that both of his parents taught Hindi literature, he has a strong attachment for the language. He completed his BA at Delhi University following his school education and class 12th. He completed his MA, MPhil, and PhD in Hindi since he is passionate about Hindi literature. In addition to this, Divyakirti holds a post-graduate degree in translation from English to Hindi. He was the one to advocate for Hindi-medium students and civil applicants who chose to take the exam in their native tongue.

His parents were both professors of Hindi literature.
In 1996, he cleared his UPSC on his first attempt. He was posted to the Ministry of Home Affairs. However, within a year, he felt his calling was teaching. Hence, he quit the Indian Administrative Service.
In 1999, he started Drishti IAS classes in Delhi, which is one of the most famous IAS coaching institutes in the country. Several of his students are IAS, IPS, and IFS officers.
