In a country where the UPSC exam stands as a formidable challenge, Mudra Gairola's journey from aspiring doctor to esteemed civil servant is nothing short of inspirational. Her story is not just about personal ambition but also about honouring familial aspirations that span generations.
Hailing from Karnaprayag in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, Mudra Gairola was destined for excellence from a young age. With exceptional academic skills, she achieved 96% in her 10th board exams and 97% in her 12th, setting a standard of achievement that would define her path forward. Her early brilliance earned her recognition from none other than India's pioneering female IPS officer, Kiran Bedi.
Initially pursuing a career in dentistry, Mudra excelled in her BDS studies, earning a gold medal. Yet, her journey took a turn when she decided to leave her MDS studies midway in Delhi. This decision wasn't just about career redirection; it was about fulfilling a dream close to her heart — her father's dream of seeing her in the prestigious Indian Administrative Services.
Her father, Arun Gairola, himself harboured aspirations of becoming an IAS officer but fell short during his attempt in 1973. Determined to realize his unrealized dream through his daughter, he encouraged Mudra to pursue the UPSC exams. Despite initial setbacks, Mudra persisted. After reaching the interview stage in 2018 and facing near misses in subsequent attempts, she finally succeeded in 2021, securing the 165th rank and entering the IPS.
Undeterred by challenges, Mudra continued to aim higher. In 2022, her perseverance bore fruit as she clinched the 53rd rank in the UPSC exams, achieving her ultimate goal of becoming an IAS officer. Her journey not only embodies personal triumph but also honours a legacy of resilience and determination.
Mudra Gairola's success is a testament to the power of perseverance and familial support. It underscores the profound impact of pursuing one's dreams while carrying forward the aspirations of those who came before. Her story resonates as a beacon of hope and inspiration for aspirants across the country, proving that with dedication and belief, even the toughest challenges can be conquered.
