Cultural fest ‘Verve’ exhilarates students

The final year students of Marathwada Mitramandal College of Architecture (MMCA) recently organised a week-long cultural fest ‘Verve’ by Archidevilz (team of final year students) from December 3-10 on the college campus in Pune.

The fest provided an array of events in the fields of sports, fine arts and performing arts. The first two days of the fest were completely devoted to sports activities like cricket, handball, football, badminton, table tennis, counter strike and basketball.

Principal of MMCA, Milind Chitale, said, “The college is celebrating its silver jubilee year and this is the 26th year of Verve fest. Every year, the theme and name of the fest is different and students have liberty to plan the fest.”

Final year student, Sameer Andre while expressing his experience about the fest, said, “The name of our fest itself articulates energy and enthusiasm. Being students of architecture, we are always playing with our submission dates, but during the fest we were competitive, especially in various sports competitions.”

An amalgamation of different ideas, day three of the fest was celebrated as a Tollywood day. Boys were dressed up in lungis sporting long moustaches and glares, while girls wore south Indian attire and danced to Tollywood tunes.

One of the Archidevilz, Nitish Kodre, said, “This year, we wanted to do something different and with the song Kolaveri Di’s craze, celebrating Tollywood day seemed the best choice.” The fourth day was the ‘Gangsta Day’ and students were dressed in various gangster styles.

Overwhelmed by the activities during the fest, Priyanka Pawar, a second-year student, said, “The best part was the two-day outdoor stay in a resort near Sinhagad fort on the outskirts of the city. We had dance performances, skits, on the spot games, mimicry and bonfire.” The Verve fest ended with an evening of fashion extravaganza based on the theme of 70s and 80s.
