After debuting in India in November last year with a single Main Hoon Tera, Avitesh Shrivastava is gearing up for his second track, Tere Bin. The young artiste talks about his upcoming release, what it means to be composer Aadesh Shrivastava’s son and how he’d have liked to have him around to see his performance on the stage.
Tell us about your new single, Tere Bin...
It is a heartbreaking at the same time groovy number that I came up with after completing my album for the US market.
What took you so long in dropping the second song?
I was busy with a lot of things and working on my international project that will release soon. There is a six-song EP that will also be out. It features French Montana, Diplo, and four other solo singers. This will be for the North American market and not Bollywood.
Which music industry do you identify more with?
Both have different kinds of music. I’m more familiar with and learned a lot from western music because I was in Los Angeles but I’ve also learnt classical music at the same time. It has been a fruitful journey and at the age of 16, working with Akon, performing with Sean Kingston has actually changed my life.
...with his late father Aadesh Shrivastava
How does it feel to achieve so much at such a young age?
I feel privileged. I wish my dad was here to see what I am trying to do. It was his dream to see me perform on stage and trying to do things independently. I am blessed to have Amitji’s (Amitabh Bachchan) support, not because of whose son I am but for my talent as well as hard work.
People often talk about your father and his musical legacy...
I feel proud that there’s immense respect for what he did with his music. Even though he didn’t work much, his music will remain among us and there’s a lot of music that he had created before passing away. I’m going to take forward his legacy in a better way. He had dreamed of many things and people miss him because he was a nice human being. I have assisted him since the age of 16 and know his style and temperament.
Your upcoming projects?
I am planning to come out with a six-song EP for Hollywood, and Tere Bin would be part of it. It will come out soon for the Indian market.
