Designer Rahul Singh will be one of the first Delhi-based designers to showcase his collection on Day 1 of the 6th Edition of Blender’s Pride Bangalore Fashion Week. After Hrs caught up with him for a quite tête-à-tête
He’s known for his designs that complement the achieving woman and he doesn’t mince his words when he says his present collection is aimed towards women who are composed, calm, serene and with a certain sense of maturity, which only comes with age and experience. Rahul Singh’s latest spring collection is beautifully crafted for the woman of substance and he let’s us know why.
Q: Tell us what we can look forward to in this collection?
A: The collection has been inspired by the Greek goddess Persephone, who after being cursed every year to spend time in Hades, would return back to earth, personifying spring. My collection breathes the same fresh air and speaks volumes about what people associate with spring — new, fresh and alive.
Q: Have you focused on any particular colours for the collection?
A: I’ve stuck to indigo and white and I love what has come out of it. The clothes resonate with energy, but not the wild summer energy that red-yellow spectrum colours boast of. This is a more sophisticated energy, for people who’ve been there and done that.
Q: What kind of clothes does the collection feature?
A: I’ve paid a lot of attention to cuts and fabric. So, while most of my clothes are in pure cottons, the cuts are a sometimes really slick and otherwise really relaxed. I’ve played a lot with draped materials that are as light as a breeze and would complement any woman who has age and experience in her eyes.
Q: You seem to have someone in mind, for this collection?
A: I was looking at women like Shabana Azmi and Dimple Kapadia when I designed this collection. Mature, achieving women have a beauty and a regal presence that can hardly be duplicated, and this collection aims at complementing that very energy.
