This show is a tribute to my in-laws, says director Goldie Behl

Director Goldie Behl’s new project is based on his memories of spending time with wife Sonali Bendre’s family.

Goldie Behl loves to look at his surroundings for inspiration. His new project Thoda Hai Bas Thode Ki Zaroorat Hai on Colors is based on his memories of seeing his wife Sonali Bendre’s family. He would frequently visit his in-laws and brother-in-law Jatin Paranjpe’s house who lived in Shivaji Park. He would always be amazed to see that in spite of all the urbanisation taking over the entire city and the area in a big way, the people of Shivaji Park were deeply rooted in traditions and were extremely close knit. According to Goldie, “this show is a tribute to my in-laws”.

Why did you choose to make this show?
We have been making television shows on a regular basis for many years now and have been known to make shows that take inspiration from reality; this is yet another step in the same direction for us. While we were working on film projects, we also would work on television projects alongside.

As a producer and director, don’t you find TV content regressive?
I can only comment on my shows. In our show if Mughdha is a home maker, she is one out of her own choice, while her mother-in-law Mrs. Kulkarni goes to work. Mughda’s father-in-law, who has a passion for cricket, pursues his interest and lives a relaxed and a happy life. A TV show is regressive or not is for the people to decide. We just make a show which is a reflection of the society.

Do you think with so many reality shows around, true talent can really stick around with so much cut-throat competition?
Every talent needs a platform and reality shows provide the platform for so much talent that is around. After spotting the talent, it’s up to the talent to sustain himself and herself in competition, but what’s good to know is that the talent has at least been spotted. It’s highly dependant the hard work of the talent later to take it forward.

Share your plans in Bollywood. What are you looking to do next?
We plan to make lots of programmes for television and there are many new shows on the radar, we are also working on a few movie projects simultaneously.

What do you love more about TV than film?
I think television as a medium gives you an assured gratification, one surely gets something in return; with film projects one may work the hardest, but you just get one chance to show your piece of creativity. To simply put it, television is the work of the brain, and film is the work of the heart.
