5 Reasons why Akshay Kumar's 'Baby' is a fantastic watch!
Have you already watched Baby? If not, here's 5 reasons why you must watch the film ASAP.
"I am trying to do something different with Baby", Akshay had started off with this line when we met him for an interview few days back. Now that the film is out, we know why he said it! Baby revolves around the sensitive issue of terrorism and there are more than just five reasons why people should flock to the theatres to catch this film.
But here are 5 of the major reasons which makes Baby a must watch this week!
Akshay Kumar- a new Khiladi!
Are you tired of watching Akshay waste his supreme acting talents in some mindless action entertainers or some banal slapstick comedies? Baby is starkly different from whatever he's done in the recent past. If you've loved him in Special 26, you will love him even further after Baby. Reinventing himself with yet another Neeraj Pandey film, Akshay has finally found his ground. From his dialogues to the stunts, Akshay was a marvel in this deliciously woven edge of the seat thriller. And Baby leaves you with just one big question- Why do masala no brainers, Akki? Can we have more such 'Baby'-s please? Move over the Housefulls and the Shaukeens, do some more of Special 26 and Baby-s! And trust me, I won't be surprised if the actor gets a National Award for this performance...
The treatment:
A Wednesday was exciting, Special 26 was brilliant - Neeraj Pandey is known to blend the conventional with the unconventional, the commercial with the niche and with Baby, his concoction turns out to be almost perfect. Making a commercially viable yet content based film looks really difficult in Bollywood, given the trade estimates and analysis but Neeraj packs in the right punch with Baby. Not compromising on the film's story just for mere box office numbers, Neeraj has definitely hit another home run! And the most wonderful thing about Baby is although you know what the end would be, the twists and turns and the logistics add a new gravitas to the predictable climax.
It's way more realistic:
Undoubtedly, Neeraj Pandey's realistic approach to the sensitive theme works wonders for the film. Akshay's been the Khiladi and has aced the action genre ever since he entered the industry. But Baby is unlike his other films. Here you won't find Akshay battling 20 goons at once. It's not another action packed Dabangg or a Chennai Express, where you see the lead taking on a group of men with ease and comfort. With a rather believable stance to cinema, the scenes and the sequences are also choreographed in a way which adds to the ambience of the film. Akshay's character does not indulge in impossible and unbelievable stunts. Rather, he makes it all the more accepting and convincing, unlike his Rowdy Rathore avatar!
The supporting cast:
Anupam Kher, Rana Daggubati, Danny Denzongpa, Kay Kay Menon, Rashid Naz, Taapsee Pannu and Madhurima Tuli- the ensemble cast boasts of some heavyweight names along with some newbies who have made their presence felt in this extremely slick action thriller. While Danny adds power to the frame, it's Anupam Kher who brings in the comic elements. Rana Daggubati and Taapsee Pannu are powerful especially in their fight sequences. One scene where Taapsee's character takes on Sushant Singh's character brought in the loudest cheers! That scene is exceptionally well choreographed. Madhurima as Akki's wife shines even with a smaller screen time.
The cinematography:
Baby could not have bitten the dust even with a great story line and superlative performances had the wonderful cinematography not worked its magic. DOP Sudeep Chatterjee makes the destinations come alive in reality- be it Kathmandu's traditional charm, Istanbul's ambiences or Abu Dhabi's exotic locales! The picturesque frames do lend a great hand in shaping Baby the way it turned out to be- like a must watch this season!
Bottomline: Baby is a must watch as it tackles the extremely sensitive issue of global terrorism with conviction and is one of the most exciting slick espionage thrillers that Bollywod has seen in the recent past! Akshay Kumar and Neeraj Pandey, take a bow.
