5 reasons why we absolutely ADORE the new 'Meri Pyaari Bindu' song 'Afeemi'

The new 'Afeemi' takes over us just like love takes over Abhi and Bindu

'Afeemi' is taking over us like a drug

The Meri Pyaari Bindu soundtrack has been one of the industry's best received musical compilations this year. From Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahin to Haareya, from Yeh Jawaani Teri to Iss Tarah, each and every song from the OST has found a place in our hearts and playlists. It looks like the composers knew this would happen, which is why the newest release, Afeemi, seems to describe how the music has actually impacted us i.e. like a drug. In that spirit, here are 5 reasons why we love the new song:

1. The lyrics: Every song stands on the strength of its lyrics. In that respect, Afeemi definitely manages to stand very tall. The song's lyrics perfectly manage to evoke a slow and gradual process of love taking over you. While the 'love as a drug' metaphor has been done to death in the past, the song manages to add a few new angles to the cliche, with Bindu and Abhi singing about slowly falling in love, little by little. And to them, it's not toxic, but something sweet captivating them in every form and way.

2. The music: Afeemi has a sweeter and more melodious tone to it than other Meri Pyaari Bindu songs. While a song like Yeh Jawaani Teri was a full on banger and Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahin was highly ghazal-influenced, the new song falls somewhere in the middle. It has a noticeable beat and doesn't get lost in a piano or a guitar, but is nice enough to listen to on a calm, clear afternoon, or even while you drive to work. The song boasts the excellent vocal talents of Jigar Saraiya and Sanah Moidutty, with lyrics by Kausar Munir. The vocals on the song perfectly complement each other and reflect Abhi and Bindu's love.

3. Feel good: The tune leaves you with a 'feel-good' taste on your palette. While it doesn't make us want to dance, it does make us feel better after a long day and is a song that can be applied to relationships universally, old or new. Like we said before, Afeemi is something you can listen to at any point of the day and you'd still enjoy it. It just makes you feel good about love, and for those perennial cynics, it gives you just the right amount of hope for love that you'd need.

4. Abhi and Bindu's chemistry: One of the main reasons the movie has the buzz it does is because of Ayushmann Khurrana and Parineeti Chopra's chemistry. What we're talking about here is the chemistry between Abhi and Bindu and what they're trying to say to each other. Through every other song of the album, we know Abhi is desperately in love with Bindu (not to the point of obsession.....not yet, at least) and we know Bindu and Abhi are best friends. But this is the first point where we see Bindu clearly sharing the same feelings for Abhi. And instead of feeling like she's coming to the realisation that her best friend is her ideal match, her love for Abhi comes to her naturally, which is why we like the song for not treading familiar territory. Admit it, the video gave you all the warm and fuzzy feels. Ayushmann is adorable, and Parineeti is just the right amount of sassy and spunky. The two make the perfect pair, Abhi the doting boyfriend, Bindu the passionate and zesty girlfriend. The video tracks Abhi and Bindu's relationship blossoming along with Bindu's singing career, as she finally strikes a record deal and releases an album. The video is a perfect example of how good Ayushmann and Parineeti go together, with some great visuals (the final shot of the two under the umbrella is spectacular) and a little comedy amidst all the love (Abhi and his friends walking in on a half-naked Bindu). Speaking of Abhi....

5. Ayushmann Khurrana setting goals: Ayushmann Khurrana's Abhi sets goals out there for boyfriends everywhere. While the entire video is supposed to focus on Bindu and her quest for success, we can't help but notice Abhimanyu quietly stealing the show, as he becomes the perfect supportive boyfriend. From coming with her for her record label audition, to being there to watch her record, from throwing flower petals at her while she's singing, to rushing her to her recording session when she's late, Abhi puts his own life on the back burner to make sure Bindu is happy and successful. Bindu herself is completely aware of her man's deeds, and could not be more in love with him. It's the mutual trust and support based relationship of the two that not only makes it idealistic but also practical at the same time.
