Unfortunately, the follow up of Ab Tak Chappan is a big mess!

What it’s about

2004 saw Nana Patekar in Shimit Amin's tight and gripping cop drama about Sadhu Agashe a no-nonsense cop who will go to any extent to cleanse the society of criminals. Unfortunately the follow up to it is a big mess. Ab Tak Chappan 2 is a prime example of how to murder any little good memory associated with a film by making what can be termed as a futile exercise to milk money at the cost of making fans revisit the franchise. This time around the film focuses more on Sadhu's personal battle with the goons after his own son's cold-blooded murder.

What’s hot

Nana Patekar deserves props for being the only one who seemed to truly believe that making this film was worthwhile. You can't deny his screen presence and the ease at which he can still make some ordinary dialogues sound like heavy duty limericks.

What’s not

The most annoying part of the film which might give you a migraine is the awkward camera work. Don't know if it was a tribute to Ram Gopal Varma, but the way the camera works was just plain irritating. Supporting actors like Vikram Gokhale, Ashutosh Rana, Govind Namdev are wasted with very little to do other than plain posturing. Also despite the grim setting you don't really end up feeling any empathy for Sadhu. That is the biggest failure of the film.

Verdict

A failed attempt to rekindle the excitement of its first part, Ab Tak Chappan 2 is like attempting to go back to an ex who has clearly moved on!
