It’s always family first for the Deols and actor Abhay Deol is no exception to this norm. Abhay, who is called ‘Dimpy’ at home, admits to being rather close to his cousins, actors Sunny and Bobby Deol and uncle, veteran actor Dharmendra.

So much so, that he refers to him as ‘Papa’ and calls his own dad, Ajit Deol — ‘uncle’. “No matter what my choice of films, they have always supported me whole heartedly,” says Abhay about them. Here’s more on the bond that he shares with the three Deols.

Dharmendra: The eldest member in the family, Dharmendra is fondly called Papaji by all the kids, including Abhay, who shares a special bond with him. Insiders reveal that Abhay is like his third son. In fact, Dharmendra was instrumental in Abhay’s launch too.

Sunny: The otherwise reticent Sunny is known to get in his Ghayal avatar, if anyone ever dares to even raise a finger at his siblings. “Abhay respects him a lot and has always been careful to not disobey him. Also he is very close to Sunny’s son Karan. They both are more like friends than uncle-nephew,” says a source close to the family.

Bobby: “With Bobby, however, Abhay shares a completely different equation. They both are buddies and have fun together. While growing up Abhay wanted to be like Bobby, as he was a rebel of sorts,” the source adds. In fact, Bobby is the one who always watches Abhay’s movies and one critic that Abhay loves to hear from.
