Allu Arjun created history recently when he became the first Telugu actor to win the National Film Award for Best Actor for his incredible performance as Pushpa Raj in the 2021 blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise. But it wasn't Allu Arjun, but Mahesh Babu who was the direcctor Sukumar's first choice for the film.
After Allu Arjun's win, an old tweet of Mahesh Babu went viral on X (previously known as Twitter) where he announced his decision to quit the film, has gone viral. On March 4, 2019, Babu had tweeted, "Due to creative differences, my film with Sukumar is not happening. I wish him all the best on the announcement of his new project. Respect always for a film maker par exellence. 1 Nenokkadine will remain as a cult classic. Enjoyed every moment working on that film."
Now, netizens are sharing their reactions as to how nobody could have played Pushpa better than Allu Arjun. "Not sure how it would’ve worked out. But #Pushpa is what it is because of @alluarjun. No other actor could’ve done justice to the role", wrote one X user, while another comment added, "And the rest is history ! May be it was for the best for everyone, Allu Arjun pulled the role of Pushpa like a pro. It would not have been a great fit for Mahesh with his subtle acting, but would have been really interesting to see him in this kind of a role."
Apart from Allu Arjun's win, Devi Sri Prasad also won the National Film Award for Best Music Direction for Pushpa: The Rise for composing chartbuster songs such as Srivalli, Oo Antava, and Saami Saami among others. The sequel Pushpa 2: The Rule is expected to release in summers next year.
