Anjana Sukhani will make her debut in Marathi movies soon. The yet-to-be-titled film is been produced Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Shabina Khan.
Speaking about bagging the project, she says, "It literally fell into my lap. I got a call from the production house and I decided to give it a shot. I met writer and director of the movie Swapna Waghmare Joshi, who has directed the movie Mitwa. When I met the crew, they asked me whether I could speak Marathi, I told them frankly that I used to fail in Marathi when I was studying the language in school (laughs). But having lived in Mumbai, I do understand and know how to speak Marathi."
The movie will see Anjana paired opposite Swapnil Joshii, who's touted a the King of Romance of Marathi films. Anjana hasn't met the actor before, but got along well with him. "I hadn't worked with him, but of course I knew about him. He has been in the industry ever since a very age. When I met him, we got along very well...it was almost like we were long lost friends. He is very humble and great to work with. He has been very patient."
What helped break the ice, according to Anjana, were the script reading sessions that they had before they began shooting. Now that the shooting has begun, the cast and crew does their bit to improve Anjana's language skills. "Everyone is being very helpful. They talk to me in Marathi. Mala thodi Marathi yete," she says showing off her language skills.
The actress is also spending time watching Marathi shows and movies. However, Anjana, who has already worked in other languages like Telugu and Kannada, isn't really stressing over the language. "Compared to other languages, this is a cake walk. Also, a movie is about getting the scene correct, it's about getting the emotions right."
The first schedule of the movie, which will last for about three weeks, is currently on in Pune.
