Arjun Kapoor is currently in the middle of promotions of his movie Half Girlfriend. In the trailer, we saw him make slam dunk after slam dunk, and while it can be attributed to his natural athleticism, it all comes because of his immense training for the role.
The actor posted a video on his Twitter account detailing his training in the sport for the role. He says that the director, Mohit Suri, wanted the movie to be completely authentic when it came down to rules, regulations and playing styles.
The actor says "Basketball plays an integral part of the film, so we wanted it to be fluid in the film.” Kapoor then talks about his coaches, who were NBA professionals, who he had nothing but praises for. "There were people who came down from the NBA, there were people who were involved with us from a very high level of the sport."
The video shows Kapoor's rigorous practise, including dribbling, shooting, defending and pacing the court. Suri would get involved with the practise as well on occasion. The actor would practise twice a day, once at 6 in the morning, and then again at 7 PM for about an hour or two.
"Time, effort, hardwork, motivation & the will to learn, my first step in bringing Madhav Jha to life #HalfGirlfriendBasketballDiaries" was what he captioned his tweet with the video. Apparently, all of Kapoor's work has paid off pretty well, since he's been able to flex his skills in whatever we've seen of the movie so far.
Mohit Suri's Half Girlfriend, starring Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, will be out in theatres on May 19, 2017.
