Three Indians make it to the SSE Live Awards list

For the first time, the SSE Live Awards, an annual event in the UK that celebrates live performers at their venues in Wembley, Belfast and Glasgow, was thrown open to public voting.

One in particular, one of the most well known of venues in the UK, the SSE Wembley Arena, caught our eye. Three Indian performers did us proud by making it to the Top 10 after performing at the venue last year. Armaan Malik, Arijit Singh and Kapil Sharma. While Armaan ranked #4, Arijit was in seventh position while Kapil came in at number 9. What’s worth noting is that Arijit has performed there twice, while this was Armaan’s debut act at the venue as part of his international tour.
We asked Armaan how he felt about the honour and he said, “I performed at Wembley on September 24, 2016. It’s a date etched in my memory for life. To be able to do a solo international tour at the age of 21 was a huge deal for me, getting the opportunity to perform at Wembley was a blessing. It also proved that age is not a barrier, all that is needed to excel is talent and hard work.”
The voting began in December 2016 and ended on January 31, 2017. According to sources, over three million votes were received for performers across all SSE venues. The results were announced on February 13.
The top three at Wembley are a diverse bunch — Matt Goss is a British singer-songwriter based in Las Vegas, Babymetal is a Japanese metal idol band, and Thunder is a legendary UK rock band.
