Currently in Mumbai shooting for Outsourced, award winning actor Ayesha Dharker has been in the city since the end of January, and is “loving every second of it!” Written and directed by documentary film-maker John Jeffcoat, the film is set in a call centre in which she plays ‘Asha’.
The movie stars Broadway actor Josh Hamilton in the lead and an ensemble cast of Indian actors. Says Ayesha, “I read a few scripts with call centres in them but this one had a real heart and it was LOL funny. I love the way the Indian characters are rounded, well-written and very opinionated.”
Basking in the success of Colour Me Kubrick, Ayesha has also finished filming an ensemble comedy called The Contest in which she stars alongside Shabana Azmi. She says, “Shabana is fantastic in the film—she is a wonderful comedienne because the humour comes out of the character that she plays. It was an honour being on the sets with her again.”
Ayesha is looking forward to taking in more of the city. “So much has changed but as my life revolves around food, I notice the restaurants first! I love new places but am relieved that places like Mondegar and Britannia Cafe are still the same.”
